Join us tomorrow for Microsoft's Windows Phone Summit

If you thought that Microsoft was done making news this week you'd be soundly mistaken.

Yes, it debuted its Surface tablet family at an event in Los Angeles only yesterday, but tomorrow, June 20, the software (and I guess now hardware) giant is heading up the California coast to San Francisco for a Windows Phone Developer Summit. CNET will be there to bring you the story live.

Despite its name, this isn't just a developer confab. As CNET's Jessica Dolcourt wrote earlier today, we expect to see company pull some of the wraps off Windows Phone 8. Code-named Apollo, the next generation of Microsoft's smartphone OS should support, among other things, removable microSD card storage, NFC, new screen resolutions, and multicore processors. And, of course, Windows Phone 8 may look a bit like Windows 8.

ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley has a full list of rumored features, but other highlights include a new Zune PC client software with an update mechanism more akin to ActiveSync and an improved (and desperately needed) Skype app. At this point we don't expect Microsoft to reveal any Windows Phone 8 hardware.

Whatever happens, Jessica, Lynn La, and Josh Lowensohn will be on site at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown San Francisco to bring you the news. Though the event runs all day, but we'll be live blogging the opening keynote. That begins at Wednesday at 9 a.m. PT and we'll kick off our coverage at 8:45 a.m PT.
