Skanda Sashti Vrat in North India Dedicated to Skanda Mata


Skanda Sashti Vrat is observed on the sixth day during the Shukla Paksha in Jyeshta month as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India. Skanda Sashti Vrat 2012 date is May 27. The greatness of this vrat is mentioned in the Skanda Puran. It is believed that performing this vrat is highly beneficial for those couples who are not having children.

Skanda Sashti Vrat is dedicated to Skanda Mata. It is believed that children suffering from various diseases will find relief if Skanda Sashti Vrat is performed by parents.

The Vrat is usually started on Jyeshta Shukla Paksha Sashti and is performed for a year on every Shukla Paksha Sashti from then onwards.

After early morning purifications and bathing, people pray to Skanda Mata. Food is donated to poor children or elderly. Fasting is from sunrise to sunset. Fasting ends with evening prayers.
