The acquisition will extend Raytheon's cybersecurity offerings in wireless communications, vulnerability analysis, reverse engineering and custom kernel software/device driver development, the company said.

Additionally, Raytheon claims the acquisition of Greer, South Carolina-based Teligy will enable it to cover the entire communication stack for both wired and RF technologies across relevant platforms, and provide access to emerging markets.

"The Teligy acquisition adds critical wireless capabilities that address the needs of our cybersecurity customers in the intelligence, DoD and federal communities," said Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems business. "Teligy is comprised of highly skilled and proven performers with strong customer focus, and we are excited to welcome them as members of our team." Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition of Teligy marks Raytheon's 11th cyber-related acquisition since 2007. In December 2011, Raytheon acquired privately Henggeler Computer Consultants, a contracting firm that provided enterprise architecture, analytics, software, and cloud-based development solutions.

Waltham, Massachusetts-based Raytheon Company had sales of $25 billion in 2011 and has approximately 71,000 employees worldwide.
